Flat
David:
Visits Marshall Space Flight Center
Flat
David stayed busy during his short visit to Marshall.
On
Saturday, he attended the Great Moon Buggy Race at the Space and
Rocket Center. He got to help a team from the University of Tennessee
practice for their heat. Then, he walked over to check out the space
campers at Space Camp.
After
resting on Sunday, Flat David went to Marshall. First, he checked
out Melissa Botero's work on the new NASA Kids site.
Then,
he visited with one of the new NASA Kids mascots, Millicent Kaye
Way. She talked about her job working for NASA's Office of Space
Flight. Even though she is busy getting ready for the launch of
a new site in June of 2004, she was not too busy to visit with her
hero, Flat David. She congratulated
him for the work he did saving NASA.
Flat
David then worked with JoCasta Green, a writer for NASAexplores.
He helped her with her latest story on hypersonic flight. He knew
JoCasta must be a big fan of Millie; her desk was crowded with space
cows!
After
finishing the story, JoCasta and Flat David decided to take a walk
over to the Space Shuttle. It had been a while since Flat David
had flown. He eagerly jumped up toward the crew's quarters
to have his picture made. After posing for a few pictures on the
Shuttle and the Apollo capsule, Flat David knew his time at Marshall
was ending, and it was time to return to second grade at Hopedale
Memorial in
Mendon, MA. He didn't know which he would miss the most, the exciting
things going on at NASA, or the warm weather in Huntsville, Alabama!
Flat
David's visit was enjoyed by all. His heroic work at NASA will always
be remembered, and the crew at NASAexplores was honored to have
been chosen to sponsor his visit.
